A Quick Guide To Toon’s Asian Supermarkets
Newcastle is blessed with a fantastic “Chinatown”, and given Newcastle’s size there is an incredible wealth of Asian places to eat, drink and shop. Considering that including Toon’s there are only 5 Chinatown’s in England, it’s definitely something that should be explored as we are very lucky to have it. In the coming weeks we will be looking at all the different aspects of Newcastle’s Chinatown, but to start with, Geordie Japan presents a quick guide to the Asian supermarkets in Newcastle. Look for in depth profiles of each in the coming weeks.
First things first, where is Chinatown in Newcastle? Chinatown centres on Stowell Street, the north end of the street faces towards St. James Park (Sports Direct Arena) marked by a beautiful Chinese arch and the south end comes out just next to ‘The Gate’. Officially the Chinatown area covers from Stowell Street to Westgate Road, although in this wider description not every business is Asian.
